Soon after we released the Newswire 1.0 theme, some of our clients asked if there is another way to create thumbnails except the automatic thumbnail creation, since not every posts include images. Yes, now we are very happy to announce that it’s possible to create thumbnails via custom field with the latest edition(v1.1).

If you would like to create thumbnails for homepage and archive pages automatically, just simply upload an image and insert to the post, the thumbnail will be automatically created, no custom fields needed.
If you would like to create thumbnails via custom field instead of auto-creation, just simply add a custom field to the post:
Custom field name: thumb
Custom field value: IMAGE LINK (i.e. http://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/sample.jpg)

Can I have posts without images at all? I don’t want to see blank place in my posts if I can not or don’t want to use images.
Sure, you don’t need to insert image to every posts, if you want to have thumbnails display on homepage/categoriy page, just use the custom field.
im having problem showing the image of my article on main page – it never shows and keep saying image pending. im using the last wordpress version – hope u can help
